There are many reasons to play Splatoon 3. First, the title was one of the best games that Nintendo released in 2022, and that’s saying something, as Nintendo had a banger year. But the game will be so long-lasting due to the post-launch content that continues to bring players back for special events. One of those events debuted last month via the Big Run. That was the new extension of the Salmon Run mode, and it appeared to be a big success. But later today, the next Splatfest will arrive, and it will show off your taste buds.
To cement this, the dear people at Squid Research Laboratories dropped a fun piece of art featuring the musical group Deep Cut. They talk about how the different flavors of food can affect you. In this case, the Splatfest will be about Spicy Foods vs. Sweet Foods vs. Sour Foods. We’re sure many of you will discuss this topic with friends before you make your pick in the Splatfest. Or perhaps, you will go with your gut instinct and defend your favorite flavor no matter what.
The topic certainly is unique, and it reminds players that sometimes they’re going to do “wacky” themes versus more serious ones, like with the Pokemon Starter Triple Threat event they did back in November.
A key reminder to have in your head is that this Splatfest will play slightly differently than before. When the Tri-Color Battles arrive after the halfway point on Saturday, you’ll be able to do them repeatedly without being given the runaround.
Previously, you had to pick the Tri-Color battles and then do other matches until you were given access to the special mode. But now, you’ll be able to go right into them, which will please players greatly. However, there is a small catch. Due to people playing it more often than before, there will be a special point metric that showcases which team did better in Tri-Color battles, and that’ll, in turn, affect the overall score of the Splatfest.
The event starts today and goes until Sunday, so save some time to defend your favorite taste sensation!
It’ll be curious to see how Splatoon 3 grows in 2023. We know about Big Run and Splatfest events, but there is still the question of the paid DLC that they’ve teased before. We’ll have to wait and see what comes of it.
