It’s fair to say that fans of the Star Wars universe are looking forward to the upcoming launch of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. The sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is set to be released on March 17 and will follow the story of protagonist Cal Kestis as he develops into adulthood.
Ahead of the game’s launch in a couple of months, a new interview with the game’s lead actor has shed some further light on what fans, and indeed, non-fans of the Star Wars titles can expect to experience. In conversation with GameInformer, Cal Kestis actor Cameron Monaghan discussed the journey his character has been on, as well as the one he’s about to embark upon as an adult in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
The storyline will take a somewhat darker tone as Cal Kestis balances the difficulties of his adventures with the emotional and personal developments his character has been on since the events of the last game. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor takes place roughly five years after the end of the first game and for those who are into their Star Wars lore, runs in line with the events of the Obi-Wan Kenobi television adaptation. Our hero will find himself continuing his ongoing fight against the Galactic Empire, with him developing into a true and titular survivor along the way.

Interestingly, Monaghan was keen to point out the game’s appeal to those who may have no prior knowledge of the Star Wars canon or universe altogether. He explains that a strong driving factor for him working as this character is the desire to make the action and storyline accessible to everyone without factoring in any kind of preexisting level of experience with the Star Wars lore.
“It’s always been important with me,” Monaghan says, “and with our stories, that the drama, the stakes and the characters should be clear regardless of whether or not you have any understanding of anything outside of it.” He continues, adding that “I want anybody who’s never watched a Star Wars movie, read a Star Wars story, or anything like that, to be able to jump into this and play it and still be able to understand it.”
That’s not to say that longstanding fans of the franchise should be wary, as he also explains that “then, if you do have more experience and understanding, then you’re only going to have a more deepened appreciation of a lot of what’s going on.”
Whether you’re a stalwart Star Wars fan or a complete newcomer, it sounds as though there’ll be plenty of action and adventure to connect with in this game. There’s not too much longer to wait and find out either way.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor launches on March 17. It’ll be available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam, the EA app and the Epic Games Store.
