What types of games do you like to enjoy? Of course, everyone has their favorites regarding gaming genres, and that’s perfectly fine. After all, there is comfort in the familiar and knowing that the next game in the genre will bring you joy like the previous ones. For decades now, JRPGs have been one of the hallmarks of the gaming world. Whether turn-based, top-down, or free-flow action RPGs, gamers of all ages have enjoyed them in all the forms, they’ve taken. As such, if you’re a fan of them, 2023 will be a banner year for you gaming-wise, especially if you’re a fan of titles like Final Fantasy.
As you can see in the tweet below, the 2023 JRPG lineup is quite robust. For example, in January alone, you’re getting multiple JRPG titles. The 3rd and 4th mainline Persona titles will be making their multiplatform debuts, and fans are very excited about that. Many haven’t been able to play the other games in the series outside of the 5th entry and want to see what the franchise was like before its “breakout title.”
Not too long after that title comes out shall arrive Fire Emblem Engage. The new title in the beloved series is putting some new twists on its formula to entice gamers to try it out. That includes a new style of visuals and bringing back past main characters to serve as “power-ups” for the new characters in the game.
Following that in February is Octopath Traveler II. The sequel to the hit Nintendo Switch/PC title is highly-anticipated due to the first game’s success. Not to mention that there will be eight new characters and stories that will tie together more than ever before.
Sticking with Square Enix, numerous Final Fantasy titles are coming out in 2023 that have fans bouncing with anticipation. For example, the next mainline title comes out in the middle of the year and promises a darker and “more mature” experience than previous titles. The team is also shifting to a more “action game” style with the combat, so many changes are ahead.
But if you want something more “familiar,” Square Enix is delivering a “pixel remaster” of the franchise’s first six games, and the response to that has also been huge.
You can check out the other JRPGs that are coming out in 2023 below:
But, of course, those are the ones we know about. There could be more surprises in store as the year goes on.
