Unless you’ve been hiding behind a rock for the past couple of years, you may have heard of a little Amazon Prime series called The Boys. It has become one of the most famous and enjoyable TV series of the last few years; featuring great characters (albeit slightly neurotic ones), a superb storyline with fabulous twists, expertly crafted visuals, and tremendous action scenes that live long in the memory. If you are a fan, then you might be interested to know that there could very well be a The Boys game heading our way.
The series revolves around a group of superheroes known as supes, who, while also fighting crime, completely abuse their powers for self-gain, and a group of vigilantes that you thought might be the guardians of the Earth, prove to be nothing short of evil. But if you’ve watched the show, you’ll know how violent it is, and that would make the perfect game, wouldn’t it?
You might think this is surely just a rumor created by a fan, but you couldn’t be more wrong because it’s got far more legs than that. According to Deadline, the former Amazon Studios and Fox Network Group executive Sharon Tal Yaguado has launched a brand-new studio called Astrid Entertainment. This new video game studio will specialize in fantasy-like settings and has already secured a high seven-figure pre-seed investment from a few investors.
It gets even more interesting because Tal Yaguado also said that “I love developing rich worlds and watching millions of people engage and build communities around them. We are seeing a new generation that wants something different.” She went on to say, “They enjoy walking into evocative worlds that give them freedom, let them hang out with their friends, explore, discover, and create their own stories.” She sounds very excited about the prospects, and I guess we should be as well.
If this statement is anything to go by though, and if we were to assume for just a second, then this development studio sounds like it is already working on a multiplayer game. Imagine this, a co-op multiplayer open-world game based on the hit TV series, it could be a thing of beauty. The Boys game would need to be dark if it were to mirror the series, so we could be looking at a Gotham Knights-type game where players can change between different superheroes and chaotic violence ensues.
Before we get ahead of ourselves though, this is but a mere rumor, hearsay if you will. The studio could very well be working on a brand-new game, and it could be anything, but how cool would it be if this was true? You can count us sold anyway.
