Yesterday, The Pokemon Company posted that a brand new Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trailer would arrive early this morning and that we would “not want to miss it.” Well, the new trailer is out, and it’s something you don’t want to miss. Of course, that is if you’re a fan of Ed Sheeran. Confused? Well, instead of doing a trailer that focused on a bunch of new information, The Pokemon decided to post a music video of sorts set to Ed Sheeran’s “Celestial,” which, if you recall, was the track he made in collaboration with the franchise and did a Poke-music video to.
Here, instead of us seeing Sheeran, we get a look at Pokemon Scarlet and Violet in a far-reaching way. While not a lot of new information is depicted, it does give us a comprehensive look at everything we can do in the games, and there are some out there who will enjoy this “up close” look at it all so we can get more perspective on the adventures we’ll be having in just ten days.
Before diving into the familiar, let’s discuss some new elements we saw. First, we got to see a new Pokemon in the form of a regional variant—two, in fact. There appears to be a dual-form of the fan-favorite Pokemon Donphan. You’ll see it in the trailer via two sketches that show one Donphan in more of an attack form and one that is more about defense. It’s possible that one will be attached to each game or that you can choose which one to evolve it into. Only time will tell.
Another new piece of information is that of the Herba Mystica. One of the three story paths in the game is finding that plant. In the trailer, we see the Pokemon Klawft breaking down a wall and finding the plant. Then, it eats the Herba Mystica and gains a power-up. Perhaps that’s what makes it so unique. It’s something that can heavily power up Pokemon should they ingest it.
Something that some will like is we get to see some new conversations with the various characters of the game, including the head of the Pokemon League, some of your rivals, and the gym leaders. Plus, we get a Rolodex of battles, catching, Team Star, hanging out with your Pokemon, trading, and more!
While the trailer may not be what everyone wanted, they do paint a great picture of the fun we’ll be having on the 18th.
