Heavy Rain, the detective-thriller adventure game, is set to release for the PlayStation 4 on March 1, 2016.
This is the second major title from David Cage-led developer Quantic Dream to be brought onto the current console generation. Beyond: Two Souls, the studio’s 2013 Ellen Page-em-up, was released on the PlayStation Store back in November 2015. While Beyond was remastered for its PS4 release, getting a graphical facelift to enhance the resolution and lighting effects and integrating the DualShock 4 speaker on the PlayStation 4 controller, there is no word yet as to whether Heavy Rain will get the same treatment.
When Heavy Rain released in February 2010, it was the No. 10 best-selling PlayStation 3 game in North America. The game’s strong cult following, combined with its impressive critical reception and *ahem* heavy reliance on visuals make it a perfect candidate for a second go-round on the current generation’s console.
“For many players Heavy Rain was a defining moment in their gaming history, and for us it was definitely a milestone of the PS3 generation. The BAFTA and AIAS winning game helped establish what we like to call ‘interactive drama’ back in 2010, and loads of you have told us over the years how much the game’s story of a father who would do anything for his son moved you,” PlayStation said on its blog.
No price information has been released. However, Beyond: Two Souls launched on the PlayStation Store with a $30 price tag, so PlayStation owners can likely expect Heavy Rain to fall somewhere in that ballpark. The game will release in the U.S. on March 1, while Europe and Asia can purchase the game March 2.
