Bethesda Shares Plans For Fallout 25th Anniversary

October 3, 2022 by Alexandra Nicholson

Switch on your Pip-Boy for four weeks of Fallout treats.

It’s hard to believe it, but Bethesda’s Fallout franchise is marking its 25th anniversary this October. The post-nuclear apocalyptic RPG first burst onto the gaming scene way back in 1998. Now, 25 years and five games later, Bethesda has outlined a calendar of special anniversary content for fans.

Bethesda has today announced at least four weeks’ worth of Fallout content for players and fans of the series to sink themselves into during the course of this month. This will include a number of notable free goodies, not least of all a seven-day free trial of the latest Fallout instalment, Fallout 76. For those who are yet to try out Bethesda’s live-service multiplayer version of the franchise, the free trial for Fallout 76 gets underway tomorrow, October 4 and will run until next Tuesday, October 11. This will be a good opportunity to try out the title’s latest expansion The Pitt, which will send players past the base game’s Appalachian borders and into the lethal locale of post-apocalyptic Pittsburgh.

Additionally, active Prime Gaming subscribers can pick up the base Fallout 76 game for free for PC on the Windows Store via Prime Gaming Rewards, until November 1. Also, until October 24, members of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate can also get their hands on a month’s worth of Fallout 1st as one of their Xbox Game Pass perks, provided they haven’t already claimed this perk previously. Fallout 1st is the premium subscriber-only tier of Fallout 76 that unlocks a number of unique in-game content and bonuses, so if you’ve wondered what people paying into that get for their money, now’s your chance to find out.

The celebrations kick off today and those wondering what else is in store for Fallout fans will be able to check out the dedicated Fallout25 website each week to find out what new treats are coming up. Additional updates, community content events and discounts on Fallout titles will also come into play throughout October. Interestingly, Fallout Shelter is also getting an update next week, which will be the first update the free-to-play title has had in more than four years.

Fallout fans may be waiting a while for any kind of announcement of the next mainline game in the Fallout series, but it’s not all quiet on the horizon. The upcoming Fallout TV show that’s currently in production at Amazon Prime Video has had some exciting images leaked, which has only served to heighten the excitement for the TV adaptation. Whilst details on the show are still a bit thin on the ground, eagle-eyed fans have caught glimpses of the infamous Power Armor suit on set, as well as some notable locations from the games, such as the Super Duper Mart and most recently, the internal shell of a vault itself.

If you’re a Fallout fan then be sure to keep your eye on Bethesda’s anniversary website this month for all the celebratory content to come.
