When you’re watching an animated show, whether it be a kid’s show, something like Rick and Morty, or an anime, you know quality when you see it. Whether a 2D show or a 3D series, you know what looks good when it’s there. As fans have grown, they expect the best from every series they watch, especially when created by high-quality studios with proven track records. As a result, they have begun to call out inconsistencies or issues they notice. Pokemon Journeys has been around for years, and none can deny that the studio has brought many beautiful episodes to life with its animation team. However, when they needed to come together the most, they faltered.
In Pokemon Journeys’ current episodes, the Master Class of the World Coronation Series is fighting one another to determine the best trainer in the world. That is the climax of a story arc that has been brewing since the show’s beginning. Ash will even be going up against the current champion in Leon soon enough. However, throughout the battles of the Master Class, fans have noticed quality drops. Not just in the matches’ looks but how the contests feel.
Typically, Pokemon battles are fun to watch from start to finish. The Master Class features eight of the most outstanding trainers the franchise has ever shown, so you’d expect every battle with them to be legendary. But that’s not the case in the eyes of some fans. Instead, certain battles were confusing given the experience that these trainers had, and others just looked like pale imitations compared to what they could have been.
Eventually, fans had enough, and one went to Twitter to talk with the team behind the show in OLM. They asked them to “be blunt” about the situation going on with them, and the answer wasn’t what they were expecting.
OLM appears to suffer quality issues due to not having a large enough staff to make the anime the level it needs for fans to enjoy them. Plus, as the tweet above notes, this might also be hurting the franchise’s future as the show is winding down, yet we’ve heard no word about what comes next. The ninth generation of Pokemon is upon us, yet we don’t know what the ninth mainline anime will be about or when it’ll come out.
Sadly, this is a trend many shows have suffered in one form or another in recent times. As a result, animation studios have to lower their standards and deliver sub-quality products. Fans post about it on Twitter and other social media sites because they can’t believe what they see. Hopefully, things will change for the better soon because fans want to enjoy their shows without wondering what is happening behind the scenes.
