A Plague Tale: Innocence was a unique game due to its stealth-focused gameplay and the incredibly deep and poignant story of siblings Amicia and Hugo. The latter of the two is cursed with the ability to summon hordes of rats that would destroy all in his path or whatever Hugo willed them to kill. Their story ended with them fleeing their homeland and trying to find peace somewhere else. A Plague Tale: Requiem is the sequel that will arrive next month, and as a new story trailer shows, things aren’t going to get any easier for the two. It’ll only get tougher with every step they take.
As Amicia tries to keep Hugo happy and safe, the two make it to new areas that she hopes will be able to restore Hugo and not condemn him. But as the story trailer shows, while they do find peace, it is but a momentary thing as a storm begins to surround them–a storm that is filled with rats. Their only hope is to travel to an island that has been foretold to be a place where Hugo could be free of his curse. But getting there will be just as much of a challenge as surviving the rats, the people, and even each other.
The new A Plague Tale: Requiem’s trailer shows that while Amicia is still willing to do all she can for Hugo, it’s weighing on her. She is the protector, and yet you can tell she wants all of this to end. You could argue that she even needs this to end. You also see her defiance in anyone trying to brand Hugo or do things to him that she doesn’t approve of, showing their bond is still strong despite everything that has happened so far.
The gameplay wasn’t a focus in the new trailer, but the game will have plenty of options for you. As Amicia, you’ll need to guide and protect Hugo from dangers, including using your torch to keep the swarms of rats away. You’ll also get to decide how you handle enemies that you come across. Will you be a silent killer who strikes without them knowing? Or will you be a raging storm of fury that’ll wreak havoc without a second thought? You’ll have plenty of weapons and tools to choose from to get the job done.
On top of all of this, you’ll watch the game unfold via the beautiful cutscenes and interactions with other characters. A Plague Tale: Requiem truly does look stunning on PS5, and if it lives up to the expectations its predecessor put on it, this will be a title to remember. The game comes out on October 18th.
