Today’s Annapurna Interactive showcase has served up some new treats, not least of which is the news of some next-gen console upgrades for two beloved games. Space exploration game Outer Wilds and the compelling narrative mystery What Remains of Edith Finch will both be getting free upgrades on Xbox Series X, Series S and on PlayStation 5.
In a surprise update from Outer Wilds developer Mobius Digital during the showcase, it was revealed that the studio is still deep in the process of developing the game for a release on the Nintendo Switch. However, there’s still no news on a release date for that, but it is still on the cards. To sweeten the blow of that news though, the developer did reveal that Outer Wilds will be available as a 60 FPS upgrade for free on Xbox Series X, Series S and PlayStation 5 on September 15 for all those who own the game already.
Additionally, the much-loved and cult classic mystery game What Remains of Edith Finch was also revealed to be getting a 60 FPS upgrade on all three next-generation consoles. The speed boost isn’t all though. Those on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 can also upgrade their visuals to 4K for free from today to get all of the game’s gorgeous details in their smoothest and most up-to-date glory.
These were perhaps two of the less-anticipated announcements from the showcase, which also included spotlights on Annapurna Interactive’s growing network of indie development studios across North America and Europe. Other notable games that were highlighted during the showcase included Thirsty Suitors, a new in-the-works project from the team behind Kentucky Route Zero, and Uvula, which is new from Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi.
