Rise of the Tomb Raider on PC Gets Day One Discount

January 28, 2016 by Ian Miles Cheong

Steam copies going as cheap as 34% off from list price

What's with the Rise of the Tomb Raider PC port price? Yesterday the game was $59.99 on Steam as a pre-order, and now that she's released the game is only $53.99 on Steam. Generally you see the opposite, with a 10% preorder discount, but this time Square Enix has reversed the process.

The discount appears to be universal at other authorized retailers. UK-based GMG is matching Steam's 10% discount to $53.99 and even has a 27% off coupon code stacking on top of the discount, making the final total only $39.42. That's an impressive 34% off on the game's release date. If you somehow want the Season Pass, the deal also applies to the Deluxe Edition.

Rise of the Tomb Raider Release Day Deals:

  • Rise Of The Tomb Raider (Steam) — $39.42 (list $60)
  • Rise Of The Tomb Raider: Digital Deluxe Edition (Steam) — $59.12 (list $90)
  • Use Code: 27RISE-OFTOMB-RAIDER

We're guessing the game isn't selling as well as Square Enix had hoped. Last December Square Enix announced they had sold 1 Million copies as an Xbox One exclusive. That's comparably less than the 3 Million the 2013 Tomb Raider sold in its first month, though that game was locked to a single console this time around.

The 10% off discount may have been what the PC port needed, as it's topping the charts on Steam's Top Sellers list. Right above The Division (which has a Beta out tomorrow), The Witness, and XCOM 2. Having said that, it's only ranked #3 as a popular new release behind Age of Mythology EX: Tale of the Dragon, Rabi-Ribi, and Plantera.

Disclosure: If you follow the links and purchase the game, we may receive a small commission.
