Crystal Dynamics Reveals Tomb Exploration In New Tomb Raider Video

November 4, 2015 by Carlos Chism

The game’s main feature finally gets shown off.

Crystal Dynamics has released the final installment of Woman Vs. Wild. The three part series details different gameplay and story elements found in the upcoming Rise of the Tomb Raider. This episode deals with the game’s deadly tombs, how players will navigate them, and what they can gain from exploring them. You can watch the video at the bottom of the article.

The video begins by describing that Lara will use her “advanced traversal abilities” to explore and survive the tombs. They are billed as opportunities to explore, collect artifacts, and uncover important historic details. A new translation system allows her to learn three new languages by examining murals and ancient scrolls. Once enough of these have been examined, she will reach the required level to translate mysterious monoliths, which reveal locations of buried treasures and secret crypts.

Within those crypts, the video says, players will find the environmental nature and physics-based puzzles as found in the first game. Some of the tombs span areas so large, that Lara will have to traverse and engage enemies in combat in between puzzle segments. Optional challenge tombs feature “exotic themes and more challenging puzzles,” and the video highlights the use of survival instinct, Lara’s ability to analyze the world around her and see things of interest. Each challenge tomb the player completes will unlock an “ancient ability” to be used throughout the game, such as firing to successive arrows without needing to stop and reload.

While this video was the end of a three-part series, we covered the previous entry here.

Rise of the Tomb Raider releases next Tuesday, November 10, on Xbox One. The game will release on PC sometime next year.
