Lilith Ltd. announced today that it is cancelling its Kickstarter campaign for its first game, Allison Road, in favor of partnering with Team17, which will serve as publisher of the game.
“If you don’t know who Team17 are, they are most known for their Worms franchise, however, they run a fully independent games label,” the developer wrote in a Kickstarter update posted Monday. “For us it’s an incredible opportunity to be part of a label that looks after not only such a massive gaming franchise, but also supports developers like Playtonic, Mouldy Toof and many others.”
“Working with Team17 will give us the chance to make our game unhindered creatively,” the developer said, “but at the same time will give us the resources, support and experience that only a 25 year old studio can give.”
As for those who already pledged for in-game rewards, Lilith plans to “look at ways outside of Kickstarter that will allow you to be involved in the game at a later date.” Given the nature of how Kickstarter works, now that Allison Road’s campaign has been cancelled, none of the 4,482 backers will be charged for their pledges (that only occurs when and if a Kickstarter campaign meets its funding goal in the time allotted).
Lilith now plans to go “very quiet for a while as we focus on making Allison Road the best horror experience it possibly can be.”
Allison Road is an independently developed spiritual successor to last year’s P.T. Also known as Playable Teaser, P.T. was published by Konami for the PlayStation 4 and made by a creative partnership between Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro. It was created as a playable piece of marketing for a new entry in the Silent Hill series, simply titled Silent Hills. Silent Hills would have starred The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus, but the project was cancelled amidst hearsay that Kojima will be leaving Konami by the end of the year. P.T. is no longer available to download on the PlayStation Network, but that hasn’t stopped people from making sure the legend lives on.
