Bethesda’s upcoming sci-fi RPG Starfield is scheduled to release this November, and the company’s first original IP in over 25 years is causing waves in the gaming community. Described as “Skyrim in space” by Todd Howard, the game is set to release exactly 11 years after The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim changed the way people see open-world titles forever. While much of Starfield remains shrouded in mystery, Bethesda has slowly begun dropping concept art and bits of lore on social media to sate the fan’s voracious appetite for information. Previously, the developer’s Twitter account focused on the cities of Neon and New Atlantis, but a new post is paying more attention to the third and final hub available to players in the game, Akila.
While New Atlantis looks to be very Star Trek-inspired and Neon seems to be the lap of luxury, Akila is more a city for the general masses. Looking more worn down, it gives off Firefly vibes and is likely where the Freestar Collective calls home. As previously noted, the Collective is one of Starfield‘s two major factions who participated in the Colony War prior to the beginning of the game.
Each city has something to appeal to a different type of player, and it’s clear that Bethesda intends Starfield to be a game for all kinds of people who appreciate all kinds of sci-fi aesthetics. Microsoft Gaming head Phil Spencer recently went on the record to throw support behind the title, saying “When Todd and I talk about Starfield, it’s: ‘How do we make sure this is the most-played Todd Howard game ever?’”
There is no word as to when we’ll get a more in-depth look at Starfield. For now, these snippets will have to tide us over.
Starfield is scheduled to be released later this year on November 11, 2022, for PC and Xbox Series X/S. In August, it was announced that the title is not a timed exclusive and will not be released on the PlayStation 5. The game will be playable on day one with the Xbox Game Pass.
