Starfield Will Not Be Releasing On PlayStation 5

Starfield is not a timed exclusive.

Bethesda is a massive video game development studio. Most know them for their work on Fallout and The Elder Scrolls franchises. However, that may soon be changed up to add in Starfield. This is the next big RPG from the studio, and while initially, the development might have lead to a PlayStation 5 release, Microsoft has since acquired the studio. After the ZeniMax Media deal was over, Microsoft was able to secure several studios alongside Bethesda. That also made it to where Microsoft would secure several exclusive IPs.

Included in that bunch of new exclusives is Starfield. The Starfield video game has plenty of fans eagerly awaiting a launch. Previously, there were comments from Pete Hines, the senior vice president of global marketing and communications at Bethesda. According to Pete Hines, Bethesda could potentially still see video games released on PlayStation in the future. This was a comment made from the Bethesda Gamescom stream, and fans ran with it.

After rumors began to suggest that we might see Starfield on PlayStation 5, Aaron Greenberg from Xbox’s marketing team and Pete Hines have been clearing the air. Unfortunately, it looks like Starfield is not a timed exclusive deal. Instead, if players wish to play this game, they’ll need to hop onto the Xbox ecosystem. Fortunately, Microsoft has been pushing for different ways that players can access their exclusive video game content.

While you have the likes of Xbox consoles, there’s also streaming. Xbox Game Pass has the means to allow players to stream the Xbox line of video games to their consoles, PCs, and even mobile devices. In addition, even Xbox One consoles can stream Xbox Series X games later this year, so that should make it a capable device to gain access to Starfield when it launches on November 11, 2021.
