Halo: The Master Chief Collection Update Celebrates 20 Years

November 4, 2021 by Carley Garcia

Master Chief is almost old enough for a beer!

Master Chief has spent the last twenty years becoming one of the most recognizable video game characters in history, and to celebrate, Halo: The Master Chief Collection has announced the addition of some fresh Halo-themed content coming over the next new months. The first update was implemented today and includes the “Orion” armor set for Halo 2: Anniversary, first seen in the original 1999 Halo reveal. Players can also grab some new weapon skins, back accessories, and some new Nameplates.

Here’s a rundown of the extras and bonuses coming to the collection, and when you can plan on snagging them:

  • November 3, 2021: “Orion” Armor Set (Helmet, Chest, Shoulders, Arms, Legs) for Halo 2: Anniversary
  • November 10, 2021: The Beast Back Accessory and Duke Shoulders for Halo 3
  • November 17, 2021: OG Xbox Assault Rifle Skin for Halo 3
  • November 24, 2021: Semi-Powered Infiltration “Mirage” Armor (Helmet, Chest, Shoulders, Arms, Legs) for Halo 3
  • December 1, 2021: OG Xbox Battle Rifle Skin and Rucksack Back Accessory for Halo 3
  • December 8, 2021: Hydration Container Utility Item for Halo: Reach
  • December 15, 2021: Fronkbox Back Accessory, Duke Shoulders, and OG Xbox Sniper Rifle skin for Halo 3
  • December 22, 2021: Grunt Plush and X-Pack Back Accessories and the OG Xbox Magnum Skin for Halo 3
  • December 29, 2021: OG Xbox Shotgun and SPNKr Skin for Halo 3
  • January 5, 2022: The first return of the “Orion” armor set for Halo 2: Anniversary

In October, the game’s eighth and final full season was released, including new cosmetics, a new map for Halo 3 named ‘Icebox,’ and custom game support for Halo 1 and Halo 3. Halo 1 was also given full mod support.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection is available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It includes Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2: Anniversary, Halo 3, Halo 2: ODST, Halo: Reach, and Halo 4. While Season 8, released October 13, was announced to be the game’s last full season, 343 Industries has made it clear that the Master Chief Collection will continue receiving support through 2022. The next installment of the series, Halo Infinite, releases on November 15, 2021.
