Nintendo Promises to do Better With Amiibo

May 4, 2015 by Stephen Daly

Amiibo baby.

Since the first amiibo figurines launched last year, Nintendo fans have often found it extremely difficult to pick up their favourite characters with demand far exceeding supply.

Nintendo's seemingly out-of-touch social media marketing for amiibo and lack of communication about the availability of amiibo has also angered many fans.

Today, Nintendo has admitted that this is a problem and the company has vowed to do better in future.

In a statement issued to Kotaku today, Nintendo of America apologised for Amiibo shortages, adding they intend to “make it easier for consumers to know when new amiibo are on the way.”

The company's statement comments that "Sales for the product have exceeded our expectations. We understand how frustrating it can be at times if consumers are unable to find certain figures, and we apologize for that."

Nintendo says they're increasing the amount of amiibo they manufacture and ship to retail. The company also plans to improve communications through social media, press announcements, and by working more closely with retailers.

In conclusion, the platform holder said, "We remain committed to keeping amiibo affordable and easy to access as a platform to enhance game-play experiences. These plans include Animal Crossing amiibo cards that will become available by the end of 2015, and a free-to-download app for Wii U called amiibo tap: Nintendo’s Greatest Bits that launched on April 30, 2015, that lets consumers enjoy playable scenes from certain NES and Super NES games with amiibo."
