Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire: Mega Rayquaza Finally Revealed

October 2, 2014 by Tony Ponce

“Mega”? You mean, Rayquaza doesn’t have a “Primal” form?

For a while now, The Pokemon Company has been dancing around whether or not the legendary Rayquaza from Pokemon Emerald would also have a Mega Evolution of its own like Groudon and Kyogre in the upcoming Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire. The time for dancing is over! The truth has now been laid bare!

Rather than a Primal Reversion like its counterparts, Rayquaza's new form is simply referred to as Mega Raqyuaza. However, it achieves this form differently from other Pokemon — somehow, it holds the secret behind the whole Mega Evolution mechanic. As for techniques, it can use Delta Stream to nullify opponents' weather-based abilities, and moves that would normally be highly effective against Flying-types will only deal normal damage. Mega Rayquaza can then use Dragon Ascent to rain death from space.

Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire arrive on 3DS this November 21.
