We're a day late on this reveal, but it's too good not to share. Everyone is familiar with Master Hand, right? He was the final boss in Classic Mode in the original Super Smash Bros. When Melee came along, we were introduced to Crazy Hand, the right side to Master Hand's left. Then in Brawl, we confronted an entirely new villain named Tabuu at the end of The Subspace Emissary. For the latest Smash, we've got yet another new threat.
In yesterday's Miiverse update, director Masahiro Sakurai shared the above picture of Master Hand being torn apart. As it turns out, the substance leaking from the opening is Master Hand's true form — a black mass called "The Swarm." You'll encounter this baddie at the end of Classic Mode, and the higher the challenge intensity, the greater the mass, which in turn determines what shape it takes. Like choosing the form of your destructor at the end of Ghostbusters!
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS arrives October 3. The Wii U version may arrive November 21.
