Destiny has already become the fastest selling new IP in history and Activision's biggest ever digital launch but now Bungie's shooter can add even more accolades to its exotic engram belt; the game was the fastest selling game in PS4 history, became the most shared and broadcasted PS4 game during its first week on sale, and pushed sales of PS4 hardware to their highest level since Christmas.
On the PlayStation Blog, Sony's Adam Boyes commented:
"Since Destiny launched one week ago, it has officially become the biggest PS4 game launch in North America ever. The game broke records for being the fastest purchased and most played PS4 game during its first week on sale. In fact, last week was our single biggest PS4 hardware sales week since Christmas 2013! That’s a lot of PS4s. Thanks, Guardians!"
Boyes went on to note that more content is planned in the coming months, including The Dark Below and House of Wolves expansions. These DLCs will add brand-new story missions, cooperative, and competitive Crucible maps, and all-new weapons, armour, and gear to discover and unlock. The expansions will also feature timed PlayStation exclusive content.
During the game's launch last week, Microsoft offered anyone who bought an Xbox One a free game of their choice, including Destiny, and it would be interesting to see how the game performed on the two systems but it seems highly unlikely that we'll get specific numbers.
Yesterday, Bungie released a new hotfix for Destiny which doubles the rate of public events.
