Destiny was Activision's biggest ever digital release according to CEO Bobby Kotick in a CNBC interview.
Bungie's shooter reportedly cost $500 million, a claim the studio denies, and made back that half billion on its first day; making Destiny the biggest video game launch in history.
It also broke Activision's digital day one launch record and Kotick says: "In Activision's history, more copies were sold directly to the consumer through digital download than in any other product launch we've had."
The executive went on to add that while consumers are more readily willing to buy digital games these days it doesn't mean retail releases are going anywhere, "If the consumer would rather purchase something in the store, we're always going to give them that option. If they want to download it digitally, that will be an option that's available to them. I think more consumers are taking the convenience of digital than ever before."
