What You Need To Know About Destiny

May 19, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

Bungie has outlined little tantalizing tidbits about the upcoming MMO shooter.

Here is what you need to know about Bungie’s reimagining of the FPS, Destiny.

Bungie has placed many elements to establish that Destiny is set in our earth, or of course, a fictionalized future version of it.

In terms of gameplay, Bungie has made the game tight and responsive. However, the many things they have layered on top of traditional gameplay will need some getting used to. For example, there’s fully vertical movement, light double tapping, and the unique Titan abilities.

And then there are the supers. These are executed by pressing the two side triggers at the same time, and they will release a heavy amount of power. You actually briefly shift to 3rd person when pulling these off, and this finally explains what we have been seeing in prior trailer. The camera shift may not be just for show; I can imagine tactical uses for it if Bungie designed the Supers  that way. I’m willing to bet that they did.

Finally, Bungie is most excited for what’s outside their control, and that is what the players will be bringing to the table. The game has been designed with a lot of agency, freeing you up from following the tyranny of narrative. So you can go into a level, find players in the middle of a pitch battle, and opt to join in (with a single fired shot) OR be on your merry way. Players will be able to socialize all throughout these situations.

Destiny is coming September 9 to Windows, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
