Sleeping Beauty's Maleficent may be getting a movie but for Kingdom Hearts fans the more important issue is what she'll be up to in the next game.
Players were asked this very question on Reddit and put forth a number of theories as to what role she might play. User Niosai wrote:
"I honestly don't see the movie affecting the already-established character, but I do think Maleficent will play a big part in KH3. I believe she will work for Xehanort for the majority of the game, but then possibly regret it later, giving her and Sora both a common enemy. That's just my prediction, though. Regardless, she will most likely play a larger role than she did in 3D."
SG4 meanwhile commented:
"I have an idea as to how Maleficent can be incorporated into KH3 (Major KH:3D SPOILERS AHEAD). So at the end of Dream Drop Distance we learn that Xeanhort has the ability to travel through time. What if somehow Sora and the gang find a way to go back before the events of Sleeping Beauty (whether through Xeanhort or a book the fairies have) and see how Maleficent became who she is today.
"We could go through the events of the movie and possibly see Master Xeanhort corrupt her. This was just an idea of how they could use the new movie but as you can see, it's very rough."
