Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai might be one of the few people actually using the Miiverse in a compelling way. The game designer took to Nintendo’s online service to announce a new character for the still-untitled Super Smash Bros. project for the Wii U and 3DS, pushing everyone to actually pay attention to the networking service. Ladies and gentlemen, reintroduce yourself to powerhouse Pokemon Lucario.
There’s very little fanfare around this particular reveal, which is unique for Sakurai. He tends to unveil characters during the launch of certain Nintendo products – such as Toon Link when Wind Waker HD was making its debut. Still, it’s an exciting addition to an ever-expanding roster, and the designer’s online post made him sound ecstatic about the news.
"The heroic Aura Pokémon, Lucario, joins the battle!! We've increased the influence of Aura this time, so a damaged Lucario is truly a force to be reckoned with,” he wrote.
For those unfamiliar with the character, Sakurai added some background information.
"Lucario joined the battle for the first time in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which was released six years ago,” he continued. “The production staff of Brawl worked really hard to expand the character roster–without their efforts, Lucario probably never would have joined the battle."
We don’t have a name or date, but expect plenty more characters in the coming weeks.
