The Tony Hawk Pro Skater series has been a long-running and much-beloved franchise. It’s a game that allows both skateboarding fans and individuals who never stepped on a board to enjoy the gameplay. With iconic athletes being involved along with arguably the biggest skateboarder in the world, Tony Hawk, there was a ton of love for this series. However, as the years went on, the games started to lose its charm with the installments not able to get the success they once had. Now it looks like we will get a resurgence to the franchise.
In a new announcement, it looks like we are going to see a remake for Tony Hawk Pro Skater and Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 in one compilation. The video game compilation is being developed by Vicarious Visions and it’s hoping that they can pull off a game that’s not only familiar but just as addicting to play. According to a report by IGN, the developers have taken a photo-realistic take but also including all of the iconic levels that you were able to enjoy with the original installments.
One of the means of recreating the level to work on today’s platforms and technology is by using some geometry. This means tweaking everything to make it feel just as big as the original installments. Likewise, the developers are using the original coding used by the developers that made the games from Neversoft.
Instead of just recreating the feeling, the development team is using the code in hopes to establish the same controls while tweaking anything necessary to handle as expected from a modern platform. One of those obstacles the developers are dealing with is the analog controls that were not present originally for the game. Outside of the controls and handling, it does look like the developers are trying to make a solid gameplay experience for everyone both to those that grew up enjoying the Tony Hawk Pro Skater series along with newcomers.
Currently, the remake compilation is slated to release on September 4, 2020, for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One platforms. You can check out the game trailer posted above.
