PAX West Still Planned for 2020 Despite Growing Pandemic Concerns

April 21, 2020 by Jordan Biazzo

Think it’ll get cancelled?

PAX is one of the biggest conventions spread across throughout the year, but due to the growing COVID-19 pandemic many didn’t expect to see the event still planned to go on.

There has been plenty of conventions getting cancelled, but it seems that PAX West, which is set to happen in early September. The official PAX website issued a new statement today stating that they are currently still planning to have the convention up and running when the time comes.

The statement does note that the convention is still ongoing “at the time of writing.”; this means that this can be changed as we get closer to the release date. I would not be surprised if they do indeed cancel the event due to the high amount of volume attendees.

Check out the official announcement from PAX West 2020 down below:

An Update on PAX West 2020

We tend to be pretty quiet this time of year, but since we’ve had some questions from fans and exhibitors we wanted to let everyone know that as of this moment, we’re still planning on putting together a great PAX West this coming Labor Day Weekend (September 4th – 7th) for you, and we will be updating our website with more information on badges and hotel registration in the coming months.

Our first priority is always your safety, and that extends to issues of public health. As the year progresses, we will continue to monitor the situation and work with health officials at all levels of government, and intend to follow all CDC and WHO guidelines as they are released. That said, actions already taken by our convention center and local government have left us optimistic, and we will continue working with them to make sure we take the correct steps throughout the summer.

In related news, we’ve been seeing a bunch of other major events being cancelled such as San Diego Comic-Con and gamescom.

The latest major event to get cancelled is Anime Expo 2020 in Los Angeles, CA. Known for bringing in a ton of attendees for the latest anime, gaming, and manga news, the cancellation was to be expected. The official announcement was made on the Anime Expo website where the showrunners issued a statement to the fans. Learn more about the cancellation of Anime Expo 2020 right here!
