Insurance Company Denies Hello Games Claim, Company Rebuilding After Flood

December 30, 2013 by Ryan Parreno

For now, the company will have to recover quickly to continue support and work on their breadwinner, the Joe Danger series.

Hello Games has provided some updates regarding their office flooding. Unfortunately for them, their insurance was not covered by the accident.

Simply put, Hello Games’ offices were located in a flood risk zone, invalidating their insurance. They do point out that since insurance wasn’t a worry, they could just go straight in and start setting their office in order.

Unfortunately, the developer has no optimistic news beyond that. Prior tweets last Christmas pointed out that their computers did not survive the flash flooding, including their water cooled megaPC. It is likely they will have to start over on all their games at this point.

While it’s likely most gamers have their No Man’s Sky demo in mind, their more pressing concerns would likely revolve around continuing support for Joe Danger. It is no small feat porting the game to smartphones and Windows, including DLC, and Linux and Mac ports were actually still in the works, as well as a new mobile-only game, Joe Danger Infinity. They will probably dedicate the next few months on making good on continued Joe Danger support, as well as these promised ports and games.

Not to be too negative, though, but lacking more information from Hello Games, it’s highly likely that the company was only in the preliminary stages of developing No Man’s Sky. They may end up working with different assets than they started with, but this isn’t like them losing work at their most crucial juncture. I’m sure this will mean nothing for the game in the long run, but in the meantime, let’s wish Hello Games good luck as they recover from this grievous calamity.
