Review Roundup: One Piece Pirate Warriors 4 is Simply Loads of Fun, Despite the Monotonous Gameplay Loop

March 31, 2020 by Jordan Biazzo

Seems like fun!

Bandai Namco’s latest anime-based title, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4, have been released onto all platforms, and the reviews for the latest entry in the franchise are starting to come in.

If you’re a fan of either the epic One Piece anime/manga or a fan of the beat em’ up style of the Warriors franchise, then this game is going to suit you best. The roster is brimming with loads of characters to choose from such as Luffy, Zoro, Nami, and so many more.

Many reviews state the simple fun combat will have fans of this genre hooked for hours, but after long periods of playing, the game can start to feel repetitive. This game won’t be for everyone, but for those who it is designed for, will have a blast with it!

Down below are some of the most respectable gaming sites in the industry, check out the highlights for their reviews on Bandai Namco’s latest anime-based title — One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4:

IGN 80

Pirate Warriors 4 is a great One Piece-flavored spin on the musou genre with a deep roster and simple but fun combat.

TheSixthAxis 80

One Piece Pirate Warriors 4 is a fan’s dream game, as it takes the iconic battles and moments of eight major story arcs and puts you right in the action like never before. Combat is fun and flashy while still managing to be surprisingly thoughtful, and although a few characters aren’t a joy to control, a majority of the cast is an absolute delight to play as. One Piece Pirate Warriors 4 is a jolly good time.

Screen Rant 70

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 is an awful lot of fun, and its conservative design is still a step above what Dynasty Warriors tried to achieve with its last, cursed outing. Those who get a kick out of the mindless action of other musou games should pick this up, particularly if they are already fans of One Piece. It’s not a revolution, but a competent and enjoyable hack and slash that will prove more than a worthy distraction.

PlayStation LifeStyle 75

Although it doesn’t try to do something as radical as World Seeker, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 is arguably just as great by sticking to the satisfying Warriors gameplay loop. One Piece fans will adore it even with its condensed story-telling, but it’s also great for people with a casual interest in the series. It’s easily the strongest title in the series so far, and a great bit of mindless fun in the wonderful One Piece world.

Attack of the Fanboy 60

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 is yet another action heavy entry in the spinoff series that will provide fans of the series with a fun experience for awhile before starting to feel very monotonous as a result of the lack of anything special to set itself apart from other games in the genre.

In related news, Bandai Namco has released a brand new trailer for their highly anticipated anime-based title, One Piece Pirate Warriors 4.

The latest trailer is a lengthy one, coming in at around 5 minutes long. If you’re a One Piece fan, you already know there are a lot of characters and the upcoming title does not shy away from that. The game will feature over 40 playable characters to choose from, and judging from the trailer everyone will have their own unique, iconic move sets. Check out the other One Piece Pirate Warriors 4 trailer right here!
