The reveal for Metal Gear Solid 5’s Quiet character came with its fair share of controversy. The outfit she’s seen wearing is anything but modest, and while series creator Hideo Kojima pointed to cosplayers as one of the main reasons for her hyper-sexualized look, many designers just saw her appearance as lazy. Kojima has come out to speak about Quiet (via IGN), indicating that people worrying about her looks right now just need to wait for the final game.
“At this point though, just looking at the design of the character and having concerns is pointless,” he said. “The character only comes to life when she is presented in the story. When you see how she fits into the story, you will understand why she looks the way she does.”
That doesn’t mean that Kojima is angry at fan reaction or fails to see why people are perplexed by her looks. Without context, he understands that the character could seem out of place.
“Without any of this background, I could certainly understand why there are concerns,” he continued. “I will say that there’s a reason she looks the way she does and wears those clothes.
Kojima just wants patience, but plenty of people just don’t feel he deserves it. We’ll have to see how it all comes together when Metal Gear Solid 5 launches down the line.
