Xbox One Broken Disc Drives Making Rattling Noises

November 22, 2013 by Andrea Castellano

A small number of Xbox One disc drives rattle when users insert discs.

As expected with worldwide console launches, some units ship with defects. A video compilation, put together by YouTube user Gabriel Ortiz, shows a handful of Xbox One consoles making a rattling noise when users insert games or other discs.

As soon as users insert the discs, the videos show a brief, but identical, rattling noise. The drive doesn't read the disc and users cannot launch the game.

Despite the dramatic music in the video, Xbox One owners shouldn't worry about their own consoles breaking. For the launch of the PlayStation 4, Sony estimated about one percent of consoles shipped with malfunctions.

For any other issues, we posted procedures for commonly reported Xbox One problems.
