Splinter Cell is a beloved video game franchise from Ubisoft, but for several years now the series has laid dormant. No one knows exactly why we haven’t received a new installment, but over the years, Ubisoft has claimed that they are working on ideas. It’s apparent that Ubisoft is loving the ability to tease and suggest a new Splinter Cell video game is underway, but a mainline installment has yet to be unveiled. GameStop may have some insight into the franchise as they have put out replica goggles that you can pre-order today.
Item Description
“For the first time since the introduction of Splinter Cell in 2002, after nine top-selling AAA+ titles, and with the 10th release on the horizon, this is your first chance to own Sam Fisher’s signature Ultra High-Frequency Sonar Goggles. Inspired by Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell video games by Ubisoft, and using Ubisoft’s original development files, these ultra-realistic Sam’s Goggles feature a comfortable design with adjustable straps.
Place Sam’s Goggles over your head and adjust the head straps until fitted. Turn on the switch to activate iconic lights and sounds from the video games. Once activated, these sonar goggles showcase the distinctive green lights of those used by Sam Fisher in the Splinter Cell video games.
Turn the goggles off by pressing the button again. Auto-off will activate after 5 minutes. This highly-detailed working replica is a great accessory for both Cosplay and collectors. Requires 4 x AAA batteries (not included).”
As the product details state, this is due to a tenth release that is on the horizon. The problem is that we don’t know of any mainline installment being developed. In fact, we’re not sure just where Ubisoft would make the announcement of a new video game as this would be rather big news to be released out of the blue. After all, the last installment for the Splinter Cell franchise came in 2013, Splinter Cell: Blacklist which launched for last-generation video game consoles.
Ubisoft CEO Discuss Obstacles to Develop a New Splinter Cell Entry
While it’s a guessing game as to when this next mainline Splinter Cell video game will be announced, GameStop is at least offering some new gear for fans of the franchise. Perhaps the next installment will make its way into the market in time for the next-generation of consoles.
