When it comes to video game themed movies and adaptations, there’s a large fan base already established. These films are often not award-winning pictures and at times fail to meet standards to either audience the production team was attempting to tap into. However, it’s a bit rare to see a production team halt their movie to appease fans. When Sonic the Hedgehog was first revealed in the trailer, the team behind the movie was hit with a ton of criticism over the design of the main leading CGI character, Sonic.
Since the reveal and criticism, the production team noted that fans were the driving push to go back and make the necessary redesigns. This meant that the artists responsible for the character would have to go back and make changes throughout the entire film but it looks like that’s going to at least answer the design criticisms from the fan base community. Now it looks like these redesigns are going to take a bit longer than expected.
Thank you for the support. And the criticism. The message is loud and clear… you aren’t happy with the design & you want changes. It’s going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be… #sonicmovie #gottafixfast ?✌️

Announced through a Twitter post, it appears that the Sonic the Hedgehog movie was delayed a few more months pushing the release date into February of 2020. This is likely due to how many changes were needed to get the character design right and rework the film due to the design changes. We don’t know just how the character looks yet but we imagine a new trailer will be shown off sooner rather than later.
