Microsoft isn’t worried about how powerful the PlayStation 4 is, or whether or not it can outlast an Xbox One in a side-by-side comparison. The bits and pieces powering new hardware are always one of the hottest topics when rolling into the next generation, but when November finally hits and both systems are in stores, the Xbox maker knows it’ll be all about the games and substantive features each console owns.
The company’s corporate vice-president, Yusuf Mehdi, spoke during the Citi Global Technology conference (via DualShockers) on how Microsoft has the better game lineup. The close-knit launches will be fun to watch, but Mehdi claims that industry experts are giving the software edge to the more expensive console.
"Competitively speaking, so far, I feel like we have a much better… more complete value prop," Mehdi said. "We do things that aren't found on other platforms with the Kinect, a huge piece of differentiation. As I said before, the fact that we do entertainment and gaming.
"And then even if you just take gamers, hardcore gamers, gamers buy for the game. They don't buy for stats on a spec sheet. And if you look at the games we have, according to most industry experts now, a better lineup of games."
This type of messaging has been heard among all major Microsoft employees, who seem content with focusing on the games and not how powerful the Xbox One really is. With both launch lineups and release dates now on the table, all we really have to do is wait until November to see who’s had the better strategy.
