Minecraft Xbox 360 Shares Its First Mash-Up Pack: Mass Effect

September 2, 2013 by Ryan Parreno

New trailer demonstrates what Mash-up Packs actually do.

Remember when I wrote about 4J alluding to a trailer explaining Mash-Ups for Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition? Lo and behold, we have the first one today, and it is for the epic sci-fi shooter series Mass Effect. Expect this one to be coming September 4 for only $ 3.99.

There shouldn’t be any confusion now. The Mass Effect Mash-Up Pack trailer demonstrates that you can basically play a Minecraft version of Mass Effect, at least as close an approximation as they can make possible.

To summarize the trailer succinctly, you are introduced as FemShep, given orders by Admiral Hackett to go after Cerberus in Mars. With an Asari and male colleague in tow, you take down the Cerberus soldiers and make your way into the facility, only to be trapped and surrounded by a pack of Creepers. The trailer shows you both shooting and using melee weapons although combat itself is very basic. You can also hide and do sneak attacks on enemies. The entire demo is devoid of dialogue.

At trailer’s end and on their site, they cite these features for the Pack:

  • 36 new skins
  • Mass Effect texture packs
  • Mars Facility World Save
  • Themed Menus and UI
  • Mass Effect Soundtrack

Of course, doing this meant collaborating with the folks at Bioware, so we can assume they have lined up some other collaborations with other major 3rd parties for their franchises as well.  I’m looking forward to seeing what else they have lined up in the near future, and as 4J have said, there are a lot of Mash-Up Packs slated to release. You can check out the trailer below.
