4J Studios Explains Mash-Up Packs on Minecraft Xbox 360

August 29, 2013 by Ryan Parreno

Packs will make Minecraft look and feel like a completely different game.

4J Studios helped answer some basic questions about the upcoming mash-up packs for Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition on Twitter, as well as explaining its current status.

4J first announced Mash-up packs almost a month ago.  Whereas texture packs will simply modify the look of the world, Mash-up packs will bundle texture packs, skin packs, music, a new user interface, and something new and separate, Themed worlds.

A Themed World is a save to a particular location in a given Mash-Up pack.

Unfortunately, 4J also confirmed that neither any new texture packs nor Mash-up packs are available yet. For the moment, they are waiting for legal sign-off before they can reveal even the first pack.

Going back to earlier fan inquiries, 4J explained that players will be able to build up their own worlds with a Mash-up pack. They can also load one of the Themed Worlds and proceed to explore and/or modify it. 4J also stated that the first texture pack that will be revealed will actually be a Mash-up pack, and that Mash-up packs themselves will have trial versions.

Lastly, 4J left hints that they have a trailer for Mash-up packs waiting in the wings.

Maybe there should be a trailer for the first Mash-up Pack to help everyone understand what's in it 😉 #MinecraftXBLA

While there seems to be a lot of confusion and misinformation going around regarding Mash-up packs, everything should stay crystal clear if you go straight to the sources. Aside from 4J’s own Twitter account, you can rely on @Notch and @MojangTeam to provide only accurate information. A Mash-up pack trailer sounds like the sort of thing 4J needs to explain what it’s all about, although honestly, a blog or Facebook post sharing the details would also be very helpful.
