Warning: Spoilers for Far Cry 5
Far Cry New Dawn was a surprising announcement during The Game Awards 2018. It was during the event that Ubisoft showed off their next chapter in the Far Cry franchise, though it’s not the next major release. Instead, Far Cry New Dawn is a spinoff title that follows the events of the previous installment release, Far Cry 5. During the event, we got a cinematic reveal of the game showcasing what the game is based around but now thanks to an IGN video upload, we have the first bit of gameplay footage.
This footage only lasts about six minutes and it’s from an alpha build, but we are able to get a visual insight of the gameplay and Hope County from where we last left it in Far Cry 5. If you recall back to Far Cry 5, the game ends on a bleak note leaving our protagonist and antagonist bunkered together after a nuclear blast goes off. Within Far Cry New Dawn, we see that the world has progressed nearly twenty years and survivors are attempting to pick up the pieces from their previous civilized life.
One of the interesting aspects to the game is that most post-apocalyptic or nuclear war titles feature the world in a grayish wasteland. However, over a decade has passed by and the world is overgrown into a lush colorful environment. While it’s confirmed that past characters may appear within the game such as Pastor Jerome in this latest video footage, we do have a new antagonist.
Players will be lending a hand with Hope County as they get rid of a new bandit group that has taken control. Leading this group are twin sisters and they seem just as ruthless as the past antagonist group that had their hand over Hope County in the past video game release. Take a look at the gameplay footage above while we wait for Far Cry New Dawn to release on February 15, 2019, for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC platforms.
