Pokémon fans love to pick apart and analyze every piece of new media that crops up. Even if a trailer is two or three minutes long, you can expect dozens of new forum threads and YouTube videos to appear that point out each and every new detail spotted that the developers release. Recently, a six-part dissection of the new Pokémon X and Y trailer has emerged that breaks down things you’d never even think to notice unless you’re an avid fan, with the final segment of the series tacking what could be the difference between the two genders in the game as well as a mystery behind the starter Pokémon.
The first thing GameXplain points out is the starter-select screen, which shows a box holding three Pokeballs. What’s strange about this screen is that the trainer in X and Y has four other friends who are all said to get their own Pokémon, so at this time, it’s unclear how three starter monsters will be distributed to a total of five players. Maybe more Pokeballs are hiding in the back, or maybe they'll have to just go to a different location to find their own battlers.
Also discussed is the debut of the bike, which is an item that’s been a significant part of this series for quite some time. We’ve seen the new rollerblades being used by male characters in other trailers and screenshots, but at this time, only female trainers have been seen riding the bike. This could be a coincidence, or it could mean that specific genders use their own unique methods of transportation. This is all speculation, so if you’re looking for cold, hard facts, take a look at the pre-order bonuses you can get when buying the game early.
