Here’s Kong: Skull Island Director, Jordan Vogt-Roberts, Pitch for a Legend of Zelda Movie

October 30, 2018 by Jordan Biazzo

Would you rather a Zelda show or movie?

With the news of Adi Shankar possibly creating a Zelda TV show for Netflix, the internet has been rustled with the thought of how it would work. Would Link talk? Is it live action or animated? All these sorts of questions pop into our minds, and as avid fans, we hope for the best.

Back at San Diego Comic Con 2018, IGN ran an interview with Kong: Skull Island director, Jordan Vogt-Roberts about his idea on a Zelda movie. With Vogt-Roberts being a big gamer and a main advocate for the Metal Gear movie, it is pretty interesting to see what he thinks a Zelda movie would consist of, in his vision of course.

Vogt-Roberts said the following:

“The thing about Zelda is Zelda is not Lord of the Rings, right? You cannot forget how quirky and bizarre Zelda is,” Vogt-Roberts said. “I think you need to find a way to actually fuse the traditional Zelda and the very new Zelda,”

I think you have to find a way to very intensely fuse the pure just sort of fantasy of The Ocarina of Time and The Link to the Past, but then I think you need to find a way to incorporate the newer pseudo-tech stuff — you know, the lasers and Tron lines that happen in the newer games, but in a way that’s not overwhelming.”

pitch

Vogt-Roberts has some good ideas on the Zelda movie, but will it ever come to fruition? On the other hand, we saw Adi Shankar, most recently known for his Netflix Castlevania series, take to Instagram and revealed that a new show is in the works with the big-time streaming service. Nothing has been unveiled at the moment, but according to the Instagram post, this series comes from an iconic Japanese company along with being an iconic video game franchise.

Everyone has pegged the show to be something to do with Legend of Zelda, but with no hard concrete evidence, this is just internet speculation. However there were talks at Netflix a while ago discussing a Zelda show, so perhaps this is it? Read the full details on that story right here!

The Legend of Zelda has been a very long-running franchise with many new mechanics, features and art styles, but the story always stays true to itself. Regardless if we see a show or movie adaptation of the famed franchise, it would be very interesting to see the director’s take in its respective medium.

Would you want to see a Legend of Zelda movie? How about a TV series instead? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
