Yasuyuki Higuchi, the president and CEO of Microsoft Japan, has spoken to 4Gamer, via Edge, about the company's plans to launch the Xbox One in Japan admitting that releasing the console "as is" would be difficult. Higuchi also added that Microsoft will have "something for everyone" at the Tokyo Game Show.
Following Higuchi's previous comments that Microsoft considers Japan to be a "Tier 2" country with regard to the Xbox One's launch, it will release at some point in 2014, 4Gamer pressed him on what the firm's plans are for the console in the country.
He admitted that the Xbox One, "is geared towards a Western lifestyle, and we're looking at whether or not to launch it 'as is' in Japan. We're still figuring out how to deal with things like music and video services in each country. To be honest, [releasing Xbox One in Japan] as is would be difficult."
Higuchi also said that the content so far revealed for the Xbox One will be a tough sell in Japan.
"We have to prepare content that is relevant to Japan," he noted. "'What is the best, what will today's consumers in Japan respond to? What content is in demand?' We're considering these questions now. There's no point in a solution that does not match the market. Even if we bring NFL [to Japan], haha… Japan is difficult. I'm almost tempted to ask for ideas."
Both the original Xbox and the Xbox One have struggled to gain traction in Japan and this is perhaps best highlighted by Microsoft's absence from the Tokyo Game Show last year. However, the company will be returning the event this year with the Xbox One in tow and Higuchi believes that "As a platform holder, we should be there every year."
He also promised that Microsoft will have "something for everyone" at the show.
