No Man’s Sky Embarks on Globe-Trotting Journey to Xbox One

March 30, 2018 by Katrina Filippidis

Releasing mid 2018, with a mega Summer update to follow. Will it be as world-shattering as advertised?

Hello Games’ procedurally generated sci-fi extravaganza No Man’s Sky will be broadening its horizons on Xbox One. Shifting into gears for a worldwide digital release in either Q2 or Q3 2018, the physical distribution of the game will be handled by 505 Games. No Man’s Sky originally released in 2016 for PC and PlayStation 4, but the game’s biggest update yet — which Hello Games has been “working ridiculously hard on” — will be touching down in summer 2018 for all systems simultaneously.

It’s called ‘NEXT’ and will be the next update following Atlas Rises, which fleshed out No Man’s Sky‘s lore with an additional 30 hours of branching narrative, overhauled space combat controls, and enhanced biome variety amongst other things. NEXT will come as a free update to all players who already own a copy of No Man’s Sky.

But perhaps Xbox owners are the luckiest, since No Man’s Sky‘s arrival on Xbox One will include Foundation, Pathfinder, Atlas Rises and the latest update from the very beginning. The wait for patches and bug fixes is erased, affording No Man’s Sky a more robust inauguration. Furthermore, it reaps the benefits of the Xbox One X’s 4K display. Hello Games announced that No Man’s Sky would also be launching on WeGame, Tencent’s gaming platform that is rapidly striking up a competitive relationship with Steam.

Although No Man’s Sky polarised critics upon launch and attracted a swarm of negative reviews on Steam, it still managed to sneak into Steam’s top selling titles of 2016.
