The PlayStation 4 will be launched in all regions during 2013 according to GameStop's vice president of strategy business and brand developmen, Micheal Hogan.
Speaking in a recent conference call to investors Hogan said "We know that Sony will introduce the PlayStation 4 globally in 2013 but we are still waiting to see what Microsoft's plans are."
When the PS4 was initially revealed Sony offered a release date of 'Holiday 2013' though the company have yet to name specific regions for that launch period or provide a more concise date.
Reports have previously suggested a spring 2014 release for the system in Europe. Edge claimed the system's release in the PAL territory would be delayed due to "complexities involved in European distribution."
Though Edge's news pre-dates the launch of the console it is a distinct possibility, the PS3, which was released in North America in November 2006 did not arrive in Europe until March 2007.
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president Jim Ryan has also commented ""We're not saying if 'Holiday 2013' includes Europe at this stage. We are only saying the system will launch before the end of 2013, we're not saying in which parts of the world."
The PS4's lead system architect has spoken about the importance of making the console easy to develop for and has promised there will be "many titles for launch."
