Following the official reveal of the PlayStation 4 (though I'm not sure if you can properly call it a reveal if you don't get to see the product itself), developers are coming forward to announce their plans for the console. Today, CD Projekt RED has confirmed what we already suspected: The Witcher 3 will launch on the PlayStation 4.
The press release is full of superlatives, naturally. CD Projekt RED has already claimed The Witcher 3 will be perfect, and here they back that up by saying it'll be a “truly amazing” game, with “no limits to what [they] can create in the process of realizing [their] vision for Geralt's dark fantasy world.” The game will also apparently use the new REDengine 3 to “push the graphical limits of what the PlayStation hardware can display”, which is a pretty bold claim so early in the console's life.
Speaking about the decision, CD Projekt RED also provides a list of other developers that are working on games that will release “early in the PlayStation 4's lifecycle”: Bethesda, EA, LucasArts, Ubisoft, and Activision. We already know that Ubisoft is bringing us Watch Dogs and Activision is working with Bungie on Destiny, but what about the others? Some fans were surprised that EA didn't make an appearance at the presentation last night, given the company's usual E3 spiel about sports games and the like. But we know that Battlefield 4 is in the works. As for Bethesda, who knows? I can only dream of Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls VI, but I'll not get my hopes up just yet.
The Witcher 3 is due to be available in 2014. Will you be getting a copy?
