In case you missed it, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was officially announced last week to the surprise of no one, but to the joy of many.
For years, the console wars have raged on in the hearts of some fans who went to great lengths to discern what games run better – and look better – on what systems.
CD Projekt RED has taken the guesswork and bitter fighting out of it. When a fan tweeted at the developer that they'd buy whichever next-gen console the game ran best on, CD Projekt RED simply responded, "It would be PC."
Yeah, that's not a console.
When the game was released last week, it was said to be for "all high-end platforms available" and since it's due in 2014, most expect to see it on the successors to Xbox 360 and probably the PS3, although the The Witcher 2 was not available on PlayStation 3. The original Witcher game is only available for PC as well, and CD Projekt RED supported both PC versions of The Witcher and The Witcher 2 better than most developers, with free patches and DLC. They also encouraged modding heavily.
Their response is not surprising, given their past history and the fact that consoles are limited in their hardware due to the lack of ability to upgrade and attempts to keep costs down, but I would personally bet that CD Projekt RED will make sure the game will look beautiful on whatever console they choose to support.
