The Joy-Con Controller
The Joy-Con Controller is actually two distinct controllers; the Joy-Con Left and the Joy-Con Right. That means you’ll be able to play with friends locally right out of the box.
- Joy-Con Left / Right can be used together or independently — play a game with both, or give one controller to a friend to play two-player games.
- Each Joy-Con Controller features all the buttons you’ll need: A / B / X / Y / Left Shoulder / Right Shoulder / Trigger / Home / Capture & Share / Analog Stick
- Each Joy-Con has built-in motion control functionality, an Amiibo Reader, and HD Rumble.
The Joy-Cons can also be inserted into the Joy-Con Grip to form a standard controller. When removed from the Joy-Con Grip, you can slide and click the Joy-Cons into the handheld version of the Switch Console.
New to Nintendo, each Joy-Con has a square “Share” button. This will allow you to take a screenshot of your game and share it on social media. Nintendo has promised that the Share button will record video of gameplay, but this feature will be added post-launch.
The Joy-Con Controllers are sold in two colors: Standard Gray and Neon Red / Neon Blue.
The Joy-Con Controllers are also packed-in with individual wriststraps for each Joy-Con. Sliding the wriststrap into position makes the Joy-Con Controller’s profile slightly larger, with comfortable prominent Left / Right Shoulder buttons. The wriststraps are designed for games with motion control.
The Joy-Con Controllers also feature something Nintendo has dubbed “HD Rumble” — this advanced rumble is meant to make your interactions feel even more lifelike. As described in the Nintendo Switch January 2017 Presentation, you’ll be able to feel a greater range of sensations with HD Rumble.
