Release Date: TBA 2017

Cuphead is an upcoming run and gun style platformer by development team Studio MDHR. The story revolves around a character known as Cuphead who loses a bet against the devil and in order to repay that debt, he must take out a series of bosses.

Really, Cuphead is gaining all kinds of attention online simply due to its design. Studio MDHR has developed Cuphead in order to look similar to a 1930s cartoon. The visuals look incredible and the gameplay seems relatively smooth though we won’t know until it releases at some point in 2017.

In the overall story, players will take on the role of a young girl named Hat Kid. Hat Kid has the ability to interstellar travel, though during her way home she is intercepted by a Mafia group under control of the evil Mustache Girl.

Within the game world, monsters lurk within the dark, leaving players to maneuver around areas that are untapped by light. However, our protagonist is able to defeat these creatures of the dark by bringing out a light source. Once light hits the enemy monsters, players are able to successfully turn them into objects that may help them reach new heights. This will come in handy, as In The Shadows also features collectible items throughout the game in order to open new hidden levels and secrets.

Against The Wall

Developer: Michael P. Consoli
Publisher: Cartwheel Games
Platforms: PC
Release Date: TBA 2017

Against The Wall has been in development for a number of years now. The video first popped up on Kickstarter where the campaign raised over $8,000 to help with the development cost. Michael P. Consoli, the developer behind this unique puzzle title, has been sharing his updates through social media assuring fans that this project has not been killed off.

Within Against The Wall, players will traverse up an infinite wall made of various size bricks. It’s your goal to reach new heights and discover the different buildings and landscapes attached above. Your only means to travel up the wall is by using a device that will allow these various size bricks to pull out of the wall, giving players the ability to create platforms and ledges.

This is a unique fun puzzler and there’s an early development demo build for download on the official Against The Wall website. We recommend giving the demo build a try while we wait for the official release.

Scale

Developer: Cube Heart Games, LLC
Publisher: Cube Heart Games, LLC
Platforms: PC
Release Date: TBA 2017

Scale first popped up on Kickstarter where this unique puzzle title managed to receive over $108,000 for development. Overall, the game focuses on sizes and gives the players a device that will allow them to scale anything and everything bigger or smaller.

This means throughout the game, players can change the size of a tree, wall, an enemy, cloud, to even the levels. For the most part, it seems that the video game is more open world allowing players to freely explore and discover secrets hidden away within the game.

As for the overall story, players will be taking on the role of a young physics savant Penny Prince who found herself in prison under the conviction of 9,322,591 counts of Depraved Heart Murder for accidentally destroying the entire east coast. Using an old cellphone found within a recycling bin in prison, Penny creates a device that would allow her the ability to shrink or enlarge objects. Using this device, players break free from prison and attempt to regain their freedom.

Gang Beasts

Developer: Boneloaf
Publisher: Double Fine Presents
Platforms: PC, PS4
Release Date: TBA 2017

Gang Beasts have already been played and shared online since 2014, thanks to the early access title, however, the full release is expected to launch in 2017. The video game is a local multiplayer beat ‘em up and a perfect one to enjoy as a party game.

Players will take the role of a colored humanoid figurine and battle against friends in a series of hazardous environments. Gameplay is easy to master and a bit more relaxed compared to other fighting titles such as the upcoming Tekken 7. If you have yet to enjoy the early access version of this game, do yourself a favor and mark down Gang Beasts as a title to watch for in 2017.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97BDoEMyuks

Brawlout is an upcoming platform fighting title that plays out similar to the Super Smash Bros. series. The video game allows players to choose from a series of animal characters, each with their own unique abilities.

Again, much like the Super Smash Bros. series, players are tasked with battling friends on a small stage platform while attempting to score points by knocking the opposing players off the stage entirely.

Splatoon

Developer: Nintendo EAD
Publisher: Nintendo
Platforms: Wii U, Nintendo Switch
Release Date: TBA 2017 (Nintendo Switch)

This might be a bit of a stretch for this list, but Splatoon was one of our favorite Nintendo Wii U games to have released. With the Nintendo Switch releasing in 2017 and the game being heavily featured within the console reveal trailer, it’s likely that the Nintendo Switch will receive either a port of Splatoon or a completely new entry.

With the game heavily focused on team gameplay, we can’t wait to flood the city landscapes with our team colors once again. Splatoon was a great party game for all ages and we’re curious to see just how the gameplay mechanics will handle when and if the video game releases on the Nintendo Switch.
