Prepare for the challenges ahead and arm yourself for adversity in the Ashes of Ariandel DLC in Dark Souls 3.
There’s a whole arsenal of nifty weapons included in the first of two add-ons, including a pair of powerful heroic blades designed specifically for the hardest of the hard NPCs. Giant hammers and axes are obtainable, along with ethereal whips and dual scythes — basically, there’s a weapon for (almost) everyone. Follow the tips below if you want to obtain them all, and who doesn’t want to get every cool Dark Souls 3 moveset?
All New DLC Weapons | Locations Guide
Valorheart
- Weapon Type: Straight Sword / Lion Stance
- Location:
This special weapon is dropped by the Champion’s Gravetender & Gravetender Greatwolf boss in the Painted World of Ariandel.
- Where to Find the Optional Boss: The Champion’s Gravetender is found beneath Sister Friede’s cathedral. Cut the rope bridge that leads to the cathedral, and use the planks to climb down like a ladder. Follow the root path to eventually reach this boss.
Onyx Blade
- Weapon Type: Greatsword / Elfriede’s Blackflame
- Location:
Dropped by Sir Vilhelm in the Painted World of Ariandel. Find Sir Vilhelm in the libary past graveyard in the Corvian Settlement. Vilhelm becomes hostile inside the library. Defeat him to gain the Onyx Blade and the Vilhelm Set of armor.
He also drops the Contraption Key. This is required to access the library attic and continue through the Painted World.
Crow Quills
- Weapon Type: Thrusting Swords / Quill Dart
- Location:
Found on the unreachable mound outside the Corvian Settlement. Cross the stone bridge near the Corvian Settlement Bonfire, then cross a second stone bridge on the left.
Follow the path up to a ledge, then jump over the small ravine. Smash the crates overlooking the valley below, then make a running jump to the mound with the corpse carrying treasure. The Crow Quills are found on that corpse.
Millwood Battle Axe
- Weapon Type: Axe / Warcry
- Location:
Found in the stone tower before reaching the Cathedral / Corvian Settlement in the Painted World of Ariandel. Find this tower before you drop down into the ravine or cross the rope bridge. Climb the entrance ladder, go up the stairs, and climb another ladder — at the second spiral stairs, jump the gap in the floor to reach a corpse carrying this Battle Axe.
Earth Seeker
- Weapon Type: Greataxe / Earthen Wrath
- Location:
From the Snowy Pass Bonfire, continue up the mountain to the discarded bell. Move to the ledge above the bell — there’s an icey cliff that will collapse when you stand on it. You’ll encounter a Millwood Knight wielding the Earth Seeker here. Kill him, and continue into the dead end pass with a dead knight. The Earth Seeker axe is located there.
Quakestone Hammer
- Weapon Type: Great Hammer / Quake
- Location:
Past Sir Vilhelm (and past the library attic), move on to the mountain region. Follow the path up — there’s a passage up the mountain hill with a Millwood Knight on the left, right before committing to the straight path that leads into the crypt. This red-eyed knight is carrying the Quakestone Hammer. Kill him to get it for yourself.
Crow Talons
- Weapon Type: Fist and Claw / Raptor Furry
- Location:
In the Corvian Settlement beneath the Cathedral, cross the bridge near the Settlement Bonfire. Go right and follow the ledge around to find a ladder that leads up to a building roof. Drop down onto the stone bridge below and enter the NPC house second floor. Cross over to the opposite side and use the planks to reach the NPC house roof. There is a corpse near the tower that is holding this weapon.
Follower Javelin
- Weapon Type: Spear & Spike / Hurl Spear
- Location:
A random drop from Follower Knights, one of the common enemies of the Painted World of Ariandel. These lanky, tall armored foes appear everywhere in this area.
Freide’s Great Scythe
- Weapon Type: Reaper / Elfriede’s Stance
- Location:
Can be obtained by using Soul Transposition in the Firelink Shrine with the Soul of Sister Friede. A special boss weapon.
- How to Unlock Soul Transposition: Obtain the Transposing Kiln from the Curse-Rotted Greatwood in the Undead Settlement and deliver it to Ludleth of Courland in the Firelink Shrine.
Millwood Greatbow
- Weapon Type: Great Bow / Pierce Earth
- Location:
The Millwood Greatbow is found up the mountain pass guarded by tree-women to the left of the stone tower. At the top of this hill, there are more wolves — and an optional left path where Millwood Knights are standing around a corpse. That corpse is where you’ll find the Millwood Greatbow.
Follower Torch
- Weapon Type: Torch / Breathe Fear
- Location:
This common weapon is wielded by Follower Knights, but can only be obtained from a corpse on the mountain paths beyond the old town. Continue up the mountain to the Bell and go up. Turn left at the icey ledge that breaks, and continue to the cliffs — take the lower (left) path at the fork and continue down and around to find the body carrying the torch.
Pyromancer’s Parting Flame
- Weapon Type: Pyromancy Flame / Parting Flame
- Location:
This weapon is obtained under the Crypt, beneath Sister Friede’s Cathedral. After entering the blood-sucking fly crypt, on the lower level, look to the right and attack to reveal an Illusory Wall. There is an imprint of a doorway, making it easier to spot. Follow the hidden path down through the roots to locate a corpse with this weapon on the broken bridge to a strange tower.
Rose of Ariandel
- Weapon Type: Whip / Awakening
- Location:
Can be obtained by using Soul Transposition in the Firelink Shrine with the Soul of Sister Friede. A special boss weapon.
- How to Unlock Soul Transposition: Obtain the Transposing Kiln from the Curse-Rotted Greatwood in the Undead Settlement and deliver it to Ludleth of Courland in the Firelink Shrine.
Follower Sabre
- Weapon Type: Curved Sword / Prying Wedge
- Location:
Found beneath the Cathedral where Sister Friede resides in the Painted World of Ariandel. Cut the ropes of the old bridge and climb down the planks like a ladder. Follow the root path down, dodging the exploding javelins, and look for a root network at the halfway mark. There’s a corpse out-of-reach with an item. Drop down to find this common Follower Knight sword.
All New DLC Shields / Gear | Locations Guide
Follower Shield
After leaving the attic area past Sir Vilhelm, continue out across the frozen mountain until you reach an area of ruins guarded by Follower Knights. There’s a very narrow cliff ledge in this area that leads to a corpse carrying the Follower Shield.
Ethereal Oak Shield
Found in the tower near the earlier section of the Painted World area. Climb the tower, and when climbing back down, look for an alcove you can drop down into from the interior stairs. The corpse is carrying this Ethereal Oak Shield, used by the Millwood Knights.
Chillbite Ring
This powerful frost resistance ring is found in the Cathedral beyond the Tower. Cross the rope bridge and speak with Sister Friede multiple times and she’ll give you this ring.
