Tools are mandatory for your progression in Hades 2. Melinoe is a Witch, and unlike her brother Zagreus, she is all about that crafting life. Funnelling her resources into sorcery allows her to invoke all kinds of wild incantations and spells that help further her goals of vanquishing Chronos.
You will be able to unlock most Tools in Hades 2 pretty darn early in the game with the expectation of the Fishing Rod. That one is a little bit awkward and might require a bit of doom-running to unlock. What you might not know is that every Tool can be upgraded to a more powerful variant, and in this guide, we are going to go over what you need to do to unlock them.
Note: Do be aware that Hades 2 is still in Early Access, so anything and everything is subject to change.

Greater Favour Of Gaia Incantation In Hades 2
Sadly, if you want to unlock the full potential of your Tools in Hades 2, you are going to be waiting a while. This is because the Incantation you need, the Greater Favour Of Gaia, is not unlocked until fairly late in your playthrough. This means you are stuck using your basic tools for a long time. Once you gain the ability to upgrade them, however, you should probably make that a priority.
The resources required to invoke the Greater Favour Of Gaia are:
- Marble x2
- Bronze x4
- Iron x4
You may have noticed that more than half of those resources do not appear in the Underworld. You will need to reach the surface and survive long enough to find and harvest Bronze and Iron, and that is easier said than done. We have two guides covering the surface, one which goes over how to reach the surface, and another that goes over how to survive.
How To Upgrade Your Tools In Hades 2
Once you have the Greater Favour Of Gaia Incantation cast, you can move on to upgrading your Tools. You are going to need a lot of resources to pull this off, so be prepared for a bit of grinding.
Crescent Pick
To upgrade the Crescent Pick you need x6 Glassrock and x4 iron. You can find Glassrock in the Fields Of Mourning and Iron in the Rifts Of Thessaly.
Tablet Of Peace
To upgrade the Tablet Of Peace you need x50 Ashe and x3 Marble. Ash is a standard Combat Reward that can be found during regular progression. You can also buy Ash from the Wretched Broker. Marble can be harvested in Tartarus.
Silver Spade
To upgrade the Silver Spade you need x2 Bronze and x2 Mandrake. Bronze is found in the City of Ephyra and Mandrake can be found in the Rifts Of Thessaly.
Rod Of Fishing
Finally, the Fishing Rod can be upgraded with x2 Twin Lures and x4 Driftwood. Twin Lures are a late-gate relationship item that can be bought at the Wretched Broker. Driftwood can be found in the Rifts Of Thessaly.
What Does Each Upgrade Do
Upgrading your Tools simply makes them more efficient. This makes grinding for resources easier in the late game.
Tool | Upgrade Effect |
Crescent Pick | +1 resources per node |
Tablet Of Peace | +20% resources per shade |
Silver Spade | Chance to dig up rare items |
Rod Of Fishing | Chance to fish up rare fish |
