Hades 2 is chock-full of progression opportunities, and like any good game, they all feed into each other in one way or another. You might come into Hades thinking the game is all about the combat – and whilst yes, that is a major focus – it’s also about slowly growing in power via crafting.
To craft you are going to need resources, and many of those resources require specific items – or Tools – to harvest. There are 4 Tools in total, and in this guide, we are going to walk you through what each Tool does, and how to unlock them. Let’s get digging.
Note: Do be aware that Hades 2 is still in Early Access, so anything and everything is subject to change.

How To Unlock Every Tool In Hades 2
There are 4 Tools in Hades 2 and you will slowly unlock them over the early-mid portions of the game. They are the:
- Crescent Pick
- Tablet Of Peace
- Silver Shovel
- Rod Of Fishing
Each Tool has a specific purpose, and we will go over that shortly. Before you can use any of them, you are going to have to unlock them. This is done at the Training Grounds at the Crossroads – in a similar fashion to unlocking new weapons.
How To Unlock The Crescent Pick
The Crescent Pick is the first Tool you can unlock and it is also the easiest. You simply need x1 Ash and you are good to go. Ash is one of the most abundant resources in all of Hades 2 and can be found as a combat reward. You will likely have a hefty stockpile of Ash already. If you don’t, the Wretched Broker sells it for 15 Bones.
How To Unlock The Tablet Of Peace
The Tablet Of Peace is your second unlockable Tool, and it requires a bit more effort to unlock – although not much more. You need x5 Silver and x5 Psyche. Psyche is another common resource that is generated as a combat reward during a regular run. Like with Ash, you can also purchase it at the Wretched Broker. Silver can be found in Erebus and can be harvested with the Crescent Pick.
How To Unlock The Silver Shovel
The Silver Shovel requires x10 Silver, which is a hefty chunk. You will likely need to do multiple runs to gather the required amount as the resource only spawns in Erebus. It took us 3 trips to Erebus, although your mileage may vary.
How To Unlock The Rod Of Fishing
The final Tool is the Rod Of Fishing and it is by far the most difficult to unlock. It requires x1 Fate Fabric and x1 Bronze. Fate Fabric is one of the rarer resources in the game when it comes to finding it in the wild. Some characters will give you a piece as a reward for meeting them during a run. The Wretched Broker will also sell you some for a hefty chunk of Bones. Finally, you can exchange Tickets at the Crossroads to have Charon send a shipment.
Fate Fabric might be difficult to obtain, but that pales in comparison to Bronze. Bronze can only be found on the surface, and that is not a place you can get to easily. There is a multi-stage side quest to reach it, and even then, you are not going to survive long up there. We have two guides covering how to reach the surface and how to survive the surface, so check them out. If you are feeling lucky, you can occasionally find Bronze in one of the early rooms of the City Of Ephyra, so feel free to make a suicide run to get your hands on this valuable resource.
What Does Each Tool Do In Hades 2
Now we know how to unlock every Tool, let’s quickly cover what they do.
- Crescent Pick – Allows you to harvest resources from ore nodes during runs. Each location has a different type of stone/ore you can harvest.
- Tablet of Peace – Allows you to soothe the souls of the dead during a run to gain large amounts of Psyche. You will have to perform a fairly simple minigame each time you use the Tablet. The amount of Psyche gained per soothing increases the further you are in your run.
- Silver Spade – Allows you to dig up soft dirt mounds during a run and uncover seeds. These seeds can be planted at the Crossroads and will grow into valuable resources. Each area grants a different type of seed. You can also get rare Origin Seeds when digging in the Realm Of Chaos.
- Rod Of Fishing – Allows you to fish in certain pools of water. Each area has a specific species of fish. These fish can be sold at the Wretched Broker.
When unlocking and using Tools, there are a few things you should bear in mind. Firstly, when you unlock a Tool it will automatically be equipped. Be sure to check what you have equipped before you start your run. Secondly, if you have a Forget-Me-Not assigned, a handy symbol will appear above the specific Tool, letting you know what you need to bring along. Finally, you can only equip one Tool at a time, so choose wisely before you head out.
