There’s a hidden village you can unlock very early in Dragon’s Dogma 2 — or you can miss it entirely if you’re not talking to everyone in Vernworth. One of the best locations for archers is also shrouded in secrecy. A secret Elf enclave is located in the deep forests to the northwest of the capital, but outsiders aren’t allowed inside. If you want to find the secret settlement and earn one of the best Archer abilities in the game, you’ll need to follow these steps.
How To Unlock Secret Elf Village
The Sacred Arbor is a secret elf village that’s totally optional and only available if you complete a series of quests. The elf village speaks another language, so you’ll need a translator to understand their language. If you follow these specific steps, you’ll unlock the village and understand the language.
- Sacred Arbor Unlock Guide | Quick Steps:
- Complete the quest ‘Gift of the Bow‘ by talking to Glyndwr the Elf in the Merchant Quarter or Vernworth. He’s standing outside Roderick’s Smithy.
- Give a bow — any human bow — to Glyndwr to begin the quest. You can purchase one or give him one from your inventory.
- After completing this quest, wait a day and return to the Merchant Quarter. Glyndwr will return and begin the quest ‘A Trial of Archery‘.
- In this quest, you’ll be taken to the Sacred Arbor. But, the trial won’t begin. Follow Glyndwr to the Ancestral Chamber. In the center, Glyndwr will free his sister. You can stay and fight the Ogre, or simply pick her up and leave.
This quest unlocks the Sacred Arbor — the town is located to the northwest of Vernworth in Malachite Forest. The elf village is packed with Archer associated gear. You’ll find special Elf weapons and armor. Elf smiths also provide different types of bonuses when enhancing gear.
You’ll find the Archer Maister in the Sacred Arbor. The father of Glyndwr will provide Maister Training after completing the ‘A Trial of Archery‘ quest. You’ll need to complete the quest successfully — which can be done very early in the game.
Completing these quests unlocks the Sacred Arbor but understand elf language is a different challenge. Here’s what you need to do.
Understanding Elf Language
To understand the elf language very early, be on the lookout for random Pawns that can speak elfish. Some pawns will announce they understand the language when you meet them.
- When a Pawn announces they can speak the Elven Language — even if you don’t want them, make sure to Favorite that Pawn. Whenever you activate a Riftstone, talk and check every Pawn — look for a pawn with the Woodland Wordsmith Specialization.
- To Favorite a Pawn, talk to them and select “Add to Favorites” from the menu. This allows you to easily summon them again. You can remove them from your favorites menu later.
- Once added to Favorites, go to the Sacred Arbor and activate the Riftstone -> Search for Pawn -> View Favorited Pawns.
If you have a Pawn that understands Elfish in your party, you’ll make quests with Elves much easier — you can also purchase gear and see what all the text says before buying.
The Archery-Maister
And finally, you’ll meet the Archery-Maister in the Sacred Arbor. Look for the NPC Taliespin in the Arborist’s Home.
- Talk to Taliespin in the Arborist’s Home one day after completing the quest ‘A Trial of Archery‘ — he’ll give you an Escort Request. This can be done even if you don’t understand Elvish.
- Agree and you’ll reach High Affinity with the Maister. Once that happens, he’ll give you the Hunter’s Secret item. This scroll teaches the Heavenly Shot skill after using it.
You don’t need to reach Max Vocation to unlock these rewards. All you need to do is complete the Maister quest, reach high affinity, and they’ll give you the item. Using the item will teach both you and your Main Pawn the high-level ability.
And that’s everything you need to know about the Sacred Arbor. There are more quests — like ‘The Ailing Arborheart‘ but you’ll need to wait much, much later before you’ll be able to progress. Until then, grab all the amazing gear from the store. If you’re a Mage or Sorcerer, you’ll want to upgrade your items at the Elven Smithy for bonuses to magic.
