Even fast travel is slow in Dragon’s Dogma 2. There are two major methods for fast-travel, and they vary in usefulness — it all depends on how much you’re willing to spend. Fast travel can be an incredibly expensive business, and getting the items you need isn’t exactly easy. Here’s what you need to know to get started teleporting around the map… or riding a really slow wagon. Here’s what you need to know about fast travel in the fantasy nation of Vermund.
Fast-Travel Method #1: Oxcarts
Oxcarts are the most common method for quickly travelling around the world map and they’re incredibly cheap — but they have serious limitations. Before we talk about everything wrong with Oxcarts, let’s talk about what they do exactly.
- Oxcarts connect all major and minor settlements in the world of Dragon’s Dogma 2. You’ll find an Oxcart Bell near the gates of most villages — by interacting with this bell, you’ll summon an Oxcart to your location.
- To use an Oxcart, sit in the designated seat or talk to the driver. It costs 100 g to ride an Oxcart. The driver will tell you where the Oxcart will go — Oxcart rides are a one-way trip.
- Oxcarts connect the town of Melve to Vernworth, and Vernworth to Checkpoint Rest Town. You can quickly access each section of the northern map by using Oxcarts.
- Oxcarts are extremely slow, but you can choose to ‘Doze Off‘ to skip time and jump directly ahead to your destination.
- You can also ride Oxcarts you find while exploring. If you see an Oxcart, you can board it and sit to ride it to its destination.
There are severe downsides to using Oxcarts, making them imperfect fast-travel options. They’re the cheapest and easiest to access, but not always the best for certain situations.
- Oxcarts take a lot of time to reach their destination. While you can skip ahead, riding an oxcart still takes half-a-day or longer. If you’re doing a timed quest, you may need to travel faster.
- Oxcarts are attacked often. Even if you doze off, you’ll skip ahead to an Oxcart enemy encounter. You’ll need to jump off and fight enemies to clear the path.
- And Oxcarts can be destroyed. If enemies or a large monster destroys your Oxcart, you’ll be stuck walking the rest of the way.
Oxcarts are an extremely useful tool, but if you’re in a real hurry and have plenty of cash to spare, you may want to use Portcrystals instead.
Fast Travel Method #2: Portcrystals
Many settlements in Dragon’s Dogma 2 have Portcrystals — large crystals you can activate and use like beacons. These beacons are essentially fast-travel points. You’ll need to activate them in locations like Melve, Vernworth and Checkpoint Rest Town before you can easily travel back — or you can place portable Portcrystals. These Portcrystals are extremely rare and valuable. Portable Portcrystals can also be moved. You won’t find many, but you also won’t need many.
The problem with Portcrystals is Ferrystones. These rare one-time-use items are required to fast-travel. They’re expensive, so save every Ferrystone you find for emergencies. Until very late in the game, you won’t find many of these stones. Here’s a quick rundown on Portcrystal fast-travel.
- Portcrystals are fast-travel spots that unlock when activated in towns and cities.
- To fast-travel, use a one-time-use item called a Ferrystone. When used, you’ll be able to select one of your unlocked Portcrystals.
- Ferrystones are rare and expensive, but they teleport you to your location instantly. Extremely useful when you’re completing timed quests.
- Ferrystones can be used anywhere and at any time. Just activate them in your inventory.
Portable Portcrystals and Ferrystones are some of the most important items in the game. Be sure you don’t lose them! Put them in storage if you have to. To help you, here are a few locations and methods you can use to get Ferrystones and Portcrystals.
Where To Find Ferrystones & Portable Portcrystals
Ferrystones are items that allow you to fast travel, while Portable Portcrystals are extremely rare reusable items that allow you to place a fast travel marker on your map.
- Ferrystone #1: Purchase from Philbert’s Sundies in Vernworth for 10,000 g.
- Ferrystone #2: Find a Seeker’s Token and turn it into the Vocations Guild in Vernworth. One token will unlock a Ferrystone.
- Ferrystone #3: Purchase the home in Vernworth and help Ulrika defend Melve. She’ll eventually send you a free Ferrystone.
- Ferrystone #4: West of Vernworth, enter the Rivage Cavern. There’s a shack on the beach accessible in this cavern with a Ferrystone.
- Ferrystone #5-#7: Get x3 Ferrystones by completing the Riddle of Rumination for the Sphynx.
And that’s just a handful of methods for getting Ferrystones. Portcrystals are even more rare and elusive. Getting these is incredibly difficult, but we’ll explain how to get two.
- Portcrystal #1: Talk to the Elf NPC outside of Roderick’s Smithy in Vernworth. Complete his quest and you’ll unlock a series of quests leading to the hidden Elf Village. By completing these quests, you’ll eventually unlock a Portcrystal.
- Portcrystal #2: Discover the Sphynx by following the path through the Ancient Battleground and complete the Riddle of Madness. To do this, show her your Main Pawn.
And that’s two Portcrystals! These are some of the most useful items in the game. You can only place 10 total on the map, but you’re likely to not find that many.
